Gentent Canopy Cover: A Most Efficient, Portable Generator Cover For All Weather Conditions

Last Updated on July 5, 2022

Does it rain mostly where you live? Do you love generators for their convenience and practicality? Do you often have to deal with changing weather patterns and adapt to the vagaries of weather whenever you run your generator?

Yes, in all these situations, you need to have a suitable portable generator cover ready on hand. Indeed, for most of us, a good protection for a portable generator is a real necessity. It is not a luxury. This is particularly true if you don’t have any kind of cover ready to protect your generator from the elements.

Of course, even if you are using the best-made highest quality generator, it must be well taken care of. Unless this is done, the generator will either function poorly or break down altogether. Just because it is of high quality, you cannot leave the machine exposed precariously in dangerous, stormy weather. That would be senseless, irresponsible, and expensive, in the long run.

Don’t Risk Electrocution or Shock

Many householders usually arrange to have some kind of backup power in the form of a generator to help them deal with possible emergencies. If you have such a generator that is stored up to help at such times, it will beat all logic if it fails to work during your greatest hour of need, that is, during an emergency.

Generally speaking, it can be dangerous to run a portable generator in the rain. The reason for this is that running water can slip into the outlets, potentially leading to shock or electrocution. In such a situation, many generator users usually decide to go for a DIY enclosure. Others simply choose to put the machine into a small tool shade or store. However, this can come with its own challenges. Of the problems that may be caused by such an arrangement is the question of compromised airflow.

Promote Proper Combustion

Typically, a generator requires cold, fresh air to aid in proper combustion. Moreover, it must be able to vent its hot exhaust fumes outdoors. If you are storing the generator in a small home-made shed, it is likely to heat up. This would raise the machine’s running temperatures to dangerous levels. Ultimately, this could compromise the generator’s overall performance.

You should take immediate action to remedy such situations.

How Can You Fix Matters?

It is a fact that portable generators are excellent tools to use in various situations.

They can be most useful as backup or emergency power, job site situations, camping or RV outdoor adventure. There is no question that portable generators are excellent for such functions. Is it, however, not a bit shameful that a power-generation machine that should generally work outside the house would be incapable of working in certain weather conditions?

Yes, it is undoubtedly disconcerting that a rather costly machine that you spent a fortune to buy would have to go underground as soon as the rain starts pounding, or when it is snowing or sleeting. Many are usually forced to use a covered porch or similar shelter to keep running the generator in adverse weather.

Fix it with Gentent Canopy Cover

Fortunately, you don’t need to worry anymore. Gentent canopy portable generator cover gives the much-needed solution. Your productivity projections no longer need to slow down. We are here expressly to point you to the right equipment that will help during times of need. The Gentent Canopy cover is the answer you have been seeking.

What, however, is Gentent canopy? It is simply the best tent for your generator. Nevertheless, Gentent is much more complicated than an ordinary tent. We will soon get the facts to learn more about this popular, tried, and tested equipment.

But, what will you find when you unwrap your brand new box carrying the all-important Gentent cover?

Your First Impression

At first, it might seem just a little complicated to put together the tent parts as required correctly. The reason is that the manufacturer packs the equipment in a detail-oriented package that can be somewhat intimidating to some. But, worry less. We have the whole process all figured out for you.

The Gentent generator cover typically comes with what we call the ‘legs’ (or the base), straps, a frame, and the canopy itself. All the materials are usually sturdy and designed with impressive quality. So, overall, the GenTent canopy and brace comprise the tent, poles, side flap, and the base. The existing setup for the Gentent cover makes it the perfect answer for keeping your generator dry from all kinds of destructive elements.

How Do You Assemble the Tent?

Gentent canopy can be the perfect mate for a modest machine like the Honda EU2200i Generator. When you bring it home, you will find that it comes with the right hardware to use for mounting it to the generator’s frame. Moreover, it comes with fiberglass rods for supporting the canopy itself and the canopy pieces as well.

The tent installation is simple.

You just need to attach the clamps and tighten them to the frame’s four vertical posts. Ensure to insert each of these four rods into the center rod holder. Next, attach them to each of the clamps. Then, pull the canopy over the top. Remember that it is deliberately fitted tightly. You are now almost ready to go.

While pulling the canopy down and across, you are required to release each of the rods progressively as you loop, carefully, the elastic straps over the clamp. You must also install the skirt pieces through the hook and loop connections.  Make sure you use the longer ones for the electric side of the generator.

A Step-By-Step Assembly Guide

Remember that, it will take quite some figuring and measuring before you fit the legs and straps efficiently onto a generator. Happily, Gentent offers instructional videos that help users to learn how to set up the equipment. Moreover, the tent comes with a clear paper instruction manual. These videos are arranged in sections, with one video each for assembling a specific part of the tent. It is, therefore, generally easy to follow the whole process.

During the assembling process, you need to get the base frame aligned properly and prepped well for the tent cover. To do this, you must use accurate measurements. It is also essential to know precisely how a ratchet trap works. If you don’t, it is time to learn the skill. This can be frustrating for some, but still manageable.

The Gentent kit comes in a box that is long enough to accommodate the tent-length and the frame poles. It also has an accessory box accompanying the parts. The video tutorial will guide you on how best to handle every step of the process.

Be Patient

It can be rather trying just to take the accessories out of the smaller box. Be prepared with the virtue of patience. The corner pieces and the arms also need to get assembled. Proceed to put together the ratchet strap and other sections to support the base frame. While doing this, ensure that the length between one end of the leg to the other is proper. It is not easy to click or unclick the parts together. You, however, need to do a little practice to get the hang of it.

Once the arms are correctly assembled and measured for fitness, it is advisable to go ahead and put together the corner pieces, which are also known as the angle pieces. You can attach those using grommets. This, however, depends on the nature of the generator’s slope. Take care, if you don’t get it right, the arm’s angle will get off. Next, slide them through the ratchet strap. You must obtain the configuration right. Once you ascertain the configuration, everything will fit well around the generator base. The arm should be reasonably level. If you install the grommets correctly, everything else will fit in.

The last step is to tighten the ratchet strap.

Boom!

A secure base for the tent is now ready. The rest is child-play. Now, put the tent frame’s end into the top connector piece. Next, put all the ends in place; those forming the end of the arms.

Finally, you have it. The generator tent- frame is now ready.

Does the Gentent Canopy Really Work?

Test it Out

It is important to desist from testing the tent’s efficacy on a generator during snow or sleet. When you finally get down to testing, however, you will discover that all the areas covered, on the top and the sides, by the Gentent canopy, will remain dry. Remember that you shouldn’t cover a generator entirely.

Proceed with a little light- splashing on the intake side of the motor. It should just be a dozen or so drops, nothing to disturb the intake or to damage the components. You will find that things are a bit wetter on the electronics side. Moreover, the skirt perfectly covers the top connections; these are the battery’s most critical part. A small section of the battery part may be exposed, but that is usually okay.

While you are working around the other sections of the generator, the outlets will stay dry. Moreover, you won’t find much dripping or splashing.  You will, instead, discover that a significant downside of the Gentent, on some generator models, is its fold-down handle. This handle must be folded down to allow the Gentent to fit. This means you cannot access the Gentent for transportation without taking off the cover completely.

Well, the happy thing is that this is not a fatal flaw. Not really. It is merely how the handle is designed. To avoid issues with this component, make sure to get your generator in the right position well before the rain starts.

Extra Advice

Although the Gentent comes with a tool-free installation offer, it will likely take you a few minutes to set it all up or take it down. Some leave the clamps on the frame of the generator as a tactic to reduce the installation time. Once everything is up, however, the elastic straps will effectively hold the canopy in place. Generally, even a good measure of bumping or wind- power cannot take it off.

You will find two canopies- the extreme and the standard. The standard gives you  one-year warranty and UV protection. The extreme canopy gets you a three-year warranty. The polyester construction, which is vinyl-laminated, seems to be a rather difficult task with these.

It’s amazing! This looks like a great idea. The only trouble is I got a generator that’s 25 years old and it’s spent most of its life in the back of a pickup truck in all kinds of weather conditions and it still works perfectly. It’s been in rain, snow, sleet, hail winds sunlight, yet it still continues to function. Now I don’t know if there’s tent. Is really that good of an idea when I’ve never had problems with the generator has is. I do realize the new ones have a lot more electronics so maybe it helps there
